Citroen HY Design Made in France, customized in Italy

Inspired by the Citroën Traction Avant of 1934, the Citroen HY version had a single body, with no separate chassis, independent four-wheel suspension and front-wheel drive. the Citroen HY van born for commercial use had unique advantages for the time: a flat floor very close to the ground and a height of 1.8 feet (180 cm), a tailgate that can be opened in half or full, and a convenient door side for personnel entry.

The characteristic corrugated bodywork used during the production period was inspired by the German company "Junkers" (Aircraft) which from the First World War until the 1930s used the typical corrugated sheeting that makes our Citroen HY.

The latest models to use this corrugated sheet technique were the Junkers Ju 52s in the late 1930s. Even Henry Ford adopted this construction for the Ford Tri-Motor passenger aircraft, it was a very avant-garde patent at the time. Sheet metal and ribs added strength to the frame without adding weight and required simple and low-cost printing tools. The floor welded to the frame was strong enough to support a horse and this strength also became the trademark of the Citroen Model HY. The basic design of the Citroen HY has changed very little in the various versions marketed in France from 1947 to 1981.
